Online Banquet - Day Three

Atom C

Your West Oxford Inferno Atom C team had a very fun and successful season!  Finishing with a record of 31-17-7 this group of twelve girls worked hard to improve steadily throughout the year.  Our first tournament of the season saw your Atom C team take the championship in Mitchell!  The team continued to be very successful in the opening segment of WOGHL finishing third to qualify to play in Division One for the regular season.  At the Pink on the Rink tournament in South Huron the team and bench staff were decked out in pink t-shirts donated by Be You Apparel (thank you Alison Atkinson)!  Your Atom C's fought hard to make it to the final and lost in a close game to the team from Bluewater that would become our closest rival over the season.  After fumbling a bit leading up to the Christmas break, the Atom team found their winning form again in time to finish second in the WOGHL regular season and head into the Caitlyn Cobean Memorial Silver Stick tournament.  Again, the girls played well but came up against a physical and talented team from Kincardine and finished on the wrong side of the scoreboard in the final.  Undaunted, the team entered WOGHL playoffs and OWHA playdowns where they picked up more wins (and some ties).  By the time the season was called, the West Oxford Inferno Atom C team had qualified for the final round of WOGHL playoffs in the A division against arch rivals Bluewater and were headed to the OWHA final tournament in Toronto.  Thank you to Coach Craig, Trainer Jenna, Managers Wendy and Becky and on ice helpers Matt, Mark, Amelia, Greg, Pete and Russ.  This team was able to reach its potential because of your incredible efforts and dedication to the team.  Picking only 3 players to receive Esso awards for this team is incredibly difficult.  With that said, we would like to nominate:

Most Improved:  Bryer Fleming  Bryer's skating, puck control and most of all shooting improved substantially over the season.  As well as being counted on to shut the other team down defensively, Bryer became an offensive threat from the blueline as well!

Most Sportsmanlike:  Megan Atkinson  Megan always came to and left the rink with a smile on her face.  A strong competitor, she could be counted on to battle hard for the puck in games and put in a full effort at practice.  Win or lose though, Megan was always excited to play!

Most Dedicated:  Emma Brekelmans  Emma could always be counted on to come to practice and games with a fierce determination to improve.  A highly coachable player, Emma was always willing to try new plays and tactics as suggested by the coaching staff.  Her determination to win puck battles and distribute the puck to her teammates made her difficult for opposing teams to defend.
